Casts, the game, the weather, and juveniles!

I just got back from health services where i got my weekly checkup for my cast. They said it is looking good: the swelling seems to have gone down a bit. Still, the cast isn't loose enough for me to get a new cast, so i'll probably go back in next Friday and get it then. What sucks is that people are wanting to sign my cast, but i have been telling them to wait until i get the cast that i will be wearing the longest, which i thought i'd be getting today. So i could let them sign this one now, but if they wait, they can sign the one that i will be wearing for 3 weeks. Maybe i'll let people practice on this one.

Tomorrow i am going to the football game, where the Aztecs will be playing BYU. it's gonna be fun. It will be great getting a chance to root against BYU. hah!

It is nice and sunny here in San Diego. It was cloudy for a day and partly cloudy for a few days. I think we had one brief moment of light rain. But that is all. Nothing like the downpour that i have heard is happening in northern California. Haha, i love the weather here. I guess this is the perfect weather for having to be in a cast.

Here's a little dorm observation that i will share. Thinking about bathrooms in dorms brings thoughts of horrid scaryness, but in actuality the bathrooms are not that bad. First of all, the way the floor is situated, i only share the bathroom with like 7 guys. And we were lucky enough to get the big bathroom on the floor. which includes the only bathtub that i know of in the whole of Zura! What luck! because the only way i can really bathe is by using the bathtub: i can't stand up in the shower, even though i do have a bag to put over my cast. There is a bathtub/shower and a small shower. both with curtains--plenty privacy. And then there are two toilets. So because there are not many guys sharing this big bathroom, waiting for the shower or toilet hasnt been a problem. Also, there are cleaning people who come in and usually clean things up (though, for some reason there are always paper towels strewn everywhere.) it's not exactly clean, but its nowhere as dirty as you'd think a dorm bathroom would be.

There are a few things though that i find interesting. First of all, i have noticed that only 1 out of every 5 guys washes their hands after using the toilet! It's actually quite rare to see someone wash their hands! If only the girls knew about this! It seems strange to me because i'm so consistent with washing my hands, even if i don't need to. It makes you wonder, looking around campus.. how many of these guys don't regularly wash their hands? ..and then you wonder if the girls do...

Another funny, yet sad, thing is the paper towels strewn everywhere. The other day one used paper towel had made its way out of the bathroom and onto the carpet in the hallway. I'd crutch by it thinking that someone would pick it up (i would but im on crutches), but no one did! that thing sat their in the middle of the hallway for like three days! And to my surprise, more things started accompanying it, like a used band-aid--one of the little round ones. Now that's something you'd expect to see in a dorm hallway right! Not surprisingly that sat there for some time as well. Eventually i think the cleaning people took care of it. What amazes me is not that that stuff was there in the first place, but that the juvenile guys who put it there and the bimbo girls who also have to put up with it didn't do anything about it. I think the girls encourage their own littering. One day i woke up and went into the hallway and there was popcorn and little bits of power towel strewn all throughout the hallway, which I'm guessing had to do with all the ruckuss i had heard coming from the hall the night before--guys doing childish things and the girls who encourage it for some reason. Some of the poeple here sure have a lot of growing up to do.

Still, it's great fun and it sure beats living alone!

  1. Mark! Thanks for the update. DON'T quit washing your hands! That may save you from the flu. That's probably why the flu goes around the college campus's so readily.
    Stay healthy!

    And may the BYU win!!!!!!!!!!!!
